Hot weather shipments taking a toll on wine

This cork — from a winery sample — was supposed to have been delivered by UPS overnight. (Photo modified to remove winery identification.) Instead, it took four extremely hot (93 degree+)  days to arrive.

Near-dehydrated wine forced out by the heat had collected inside the capsule.

I spoke with a UPS employee at their Petaluma distribution hub who said they are overwhelmed and that packages sit in the un-air-conditioned warehouse or in semi trailers for days on end.

I have similar corks from wine bought at the Sonoma Safeway which I will post later – LP
