Czerwinski is New Editor at Robert Parker Wine Advocate

SINGAPORE & NAPA – Joe Czerwinski has been named the Editor-in-Chief of Robert Parker Wine Advocate, replacing Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, who helmed the publication for eight years. In addition, Reviewer William Kelley DPhil has been promoted to the position of Deputy Editor.

 

Czerwinski joined Robert Parker Wine Advocate in 2017 as Managing Editor and Reviewer for Southern France, Australia and New Zealand.

 

A publishing veteran with more than 20 years of experience as a professional wine critic and international wine judge, Czerwinski will lead the team of expert reviewers, set tone and direction for the publication and develop new avenues for content delivery. His recent accomplishments include spearheading Robert Parker Wine Advocate’s sustainability initiative, which saw Robert Parker Wine Advocate introduce filters to identify certified organic and biodynamic producers and recognize wineries that demonstrate extraordinary efforts in pursuit of environmentally friendly practices through the Robert Parker Green Emblem.

 

“With more and more competition for the attention of wine consumers, it’s vital that we exceed our readers’ expectations as the world’s foremost buying guide to wine,” he said. “I’m excited to be leading a team of wine critics so committed to building on Robert Parker’s legacy as the ultimate consumers’ guide to wine.”

 

In his new role, he also assumes responsibility for rating and reviewing wines from Napa Valley.

 

“Some of my most formative wine experiences revolve around Napa Valley: my first wine-region vacation in 1990, the first long-form article I penned as a professional wine writer and two invitations—once as a speaker—to the Symposium for Professional Wine Writers,” said Czerwinski. “I’m looking forward to returning to those roots and discovering once again all that Napa Valley has to offer.”

 

To complement Czerwinski and the existing team of international wine critics, William Kelley will be assuming responsibility for reviewing the wines of Bordeaux. He joined Robert Parker Wine Advocate in 2017, to cover Burgundy and Champagne. Now based in France full time, Kelley is ideally placed to cover this important region. “I intend to bring the same sort of boots-on-the-ground coverage to Bordeaux that I’ve delivered in Burgundy, and I look forward to taking readers deeper into Bordelais viticulture and winemaking,” he says.

 

A passionate follower of the region since his student days at Oxford, Kelley brings extensive experience and expertise to the role. He cut his teeth as a taster on many of the great wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s and has worked harvests in California and the Côte d’Or.
