Pinot Noir in 1.5-liter bottles topped the list of varietal sales winners with a 20.4 percent dollar sales increase for the four-week period ending Feb. 22. according to data from Information Resources Inc. (IRI) with additional analysis from Wine Industry Insight.
Even more impressively, Sauv Blanc showed a 25.1 percent increase for the 52-week period.
Red blends/meritage posted an overall four-week period gain of 14.4 percent. The performance was mixed with 750-ml bottles gaining 19.6 percent while the 1.5-liter bottles lost 1.5 percent.
SYRAH BIGGEST LOSER IN ALL SIZES
Syrah/Shiraz of all container sizes brought up the bottom of the sales performance list with 1.5-liter bottles dropping 7 percent for the four-week period ending Feb. 22. 750-ml Syrahs dropped 4.8 percent and overall sizes, down 4.1 percent
MIXED PERFORMANCE FOR POPULAR VARIETALS
Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Merlot and other popular varietals posted performances that were scattered about the charts.
