Napa Sheep Killer Shoots Adult, Baby Lamb & Steals Rest Of Mt. Veeder Flock

A sick, sleazy thief is running lose in Napa County.

Tom Meadowcroft, Winemaker for the Meadowcroft Family of Wines contacted Wine Industry Insight tonight to report that someone shot dead an adult sheep and a baby lamb in his vineyard on Napa County’s Mt. Veeder sometime on March 24. The intruder then stole the remaining flock: two adult and six lambs.

The sheep belong to viticulturalist George Richmond.

“We have filed a police report with the Napa Sheriff’s department,” said Meadowcroft. “We have no leads as to who could have committed such a horrible crime. The property is fenced and gated. There is a gate code to get in so somebody must have known the gate code. We are questioning a number of people yet so far no leads. We are offering a reward of $1,000 to anybody that can give us information that would lead to the person’s apprehension.

MISSING SHEEP MAY BE OFFERED FOR SALE LOCALLY

According to Richmond the missing include:

  • 1, 18-month-old Mock registered Babydoll Southdown ram.
  • 1, 3-year-old Babydoll Southdown ewe.
  • 1, 2-year-old Babydoll Southdown ewe.
  • 3, 3-to-5- week-old Babydoll Southdown ewe lambs born onsite.
  • 1, 1-week-old Romney ram lamb born onsite.

Anyone who suspects they are being offered the sheep for sale should call the Napa County Sheriff’s Department at 707 253 4509 and refer to case #11-1023.
