Copper Peak Releases New Software For Direct Shipping & Fulfillment [News Release]

Benicia, CA., June 10, 2009 – Copper Peak Logistics (CPL), a direct-to-consumer wine fulfillment, distribution and logistics services company serving California wineries and retailers, has released a new version of its proprietary CopperLink® supply chain management software solution designed to enhance the processing of both wine club operations and daily wine order activity.  The new software enables CPL to better service its customers, including those seeking to forward stage wine inventories from its California warehouses to the CPL’s food-grade, temperature controlled fulfillment center in St. Louis for faster and more economical nationwide delivery.  The new software features enhancements to existing functionality and new value-added applications including interactive weather hold functionality.

“CopperLink® is designed to address the specific needs of companies involved in the direct-to-consumer wine shipping and e-commerce industry,” says Milton Cornwell, General Manager of CPL. “CPL has invested heavily in sophisticated order processing, compliance management, inventory management, information services, experienced leadership, customer service and efficient national distribution reach.  These investments offer a viable long-term solution for California wine producers and retailers, particularly those organizations adversely affected by the suspension of New Vine Logistics’ business operations. The initial client feedback to the new software release has been extremely positive.”

The new enhancements to the CopperLink® interface significantly improve the ability of CPL’s clients to use the leading edge system to place orders, manage customers, review inventory, examine order status and retrieve reports. CopperLink® is also integrated with all major e-commerce front ends and on-line compliance tools, and is fully customizable to deliver a personalized look and feel.

CPL operates three climate controlled, food grade distribution facilities strategically located in Benicia, CA., Paso Robles, CA, and St. Louis, MO. In total these facilities comprise more than 100,000 square feet of space for fulfillment processing and distribution. According to Cornwell, “Our ability to bifurcate inventory on both sides of the Rockies provides our clients a unique opportunity to save as much as 40% on consumer-direct wine shipping costs, thanks to quicker and less costly access into the Midwest and Eastern United States.”

Since its founding in 2007, CPL has grown to serve a significant number of California wine producers. CPL is a member of the Materialogic Supply Chain Alliance, a strategic alliance of supply chain industry providers whose members collaborate to provide total solutions for their clients. “We bring 30 years of supply chain management experience and significant information technology resources to serve our fast-growing base of California wine industry customers,” said Cornwell.

Wine Industry’s First Carbon Neutral Shipping Program

CPL recently introduced the wine industry’s first carbon neutral shipping option. Under this program, CPL covers the cost to offset carbon emissions associated with its consumer direct wine shipments.  CPL clients may also ‘opt-in’ by making a voluntary, per package financial contribution.

CPL itself will purchase carbon offsets from San Francisco-based offset provider Village Green Energy to ensure that client shipments are not only carbon neutral, but actually carbon negative. CPL and Village Green calculate that the offsets purchased for every 1000 consumer direct wine shipments have the carbon dioxide equivalent of removing one car from the road for a year.
