The closing of Vintage Wine Estates’ purchase of Viansa Winery has delayed been by the need for additional due diligence according to sources associated with the process.
Those sources say the snarled, checkered history of the winery and its players — including bankruptcy, intra-family transactions and some foot-dragging by the current owners — has “complicated the process.”
“The deeper Vintage has dug, the more questions they find,” said the source. “And Viansa has more stuff to dig thr0ugh than most. But, barring an unexpectedly nuclear deal-breaker, it should be closed in a month, maybe six weeks.”
