Schizo Vino Sales Showcase Upscale/Downscale Consumer Tastes

Off-premise table wines continued their schizophrenic sales behavior last month with boxes, followed by expensive wines taking the top sales increase positions, according to Wine Industry Insight’s analysis of data from Information Resources Inc. (IRI) for the four-week period ending August 9, 2009 over the same period last year. Box wines selling for an average 750-ml equivalent of $4.06 gained 27.1 percent while bottles with an average price of $25.02, increased 8.5 percent.
