U.S. Sparkling Tops Sales Growth, Expensive Segments Begin To Revive

U.S. sparkling wine sales increased 6 percent in August, slightly lower than their 7.4 percent sales gain in July, according to Wine Industry Insight’s analysis of data from Information Resources Inc. (IRI). The data, covering the four-week period ending September 6, 2009 over the same period last year also showed that imports fell 0.9 percent, a far better performance than their 2.4 percent drop in July indicating that consumers may be returning to imports. The average bottle of U.S. sparking sold for $8.52, up a bit from $8.46 last month.

Spreadsheets and IRI data offered to VIP subscribers by Wine Industry Insight represent overall industry statistics that have been extensively re-shaped and analyzed by this publication.
