Wine Growth Slows, Consumer Purchase Patterns Stabilizing

Table wine sales continued to grow in August, but at a slower pace than the previous four-week period. Wine Industry Insight’s analysis of data from Information Resources Inc. (IRI) showed that overall table wine sales grew 3.5 percent for the four-week period ending September 6, 2009 over the same period last year. This is down from July’s 4.6 percent increase. Import dollar market share slipped a bit: to 22.06 percent versus 22.45 percent in August.

Spreadsheets and IRI data offered to VIP subscribers by Wine Industry Insight represent overall industry statistics that have been extensively re-shaped and analyzed by this publication. Significantly, these data represent a minuscule percentage of that which IRI offers to its winery customers who seek far more specific and proprietary data to assist their individual sales and marketing efforts.
