Deerfield Ranch Winery Files for Chapter 11 Protection

KENWOOD, CA, February 16, 2015 – Deerfield Ranch Winery, an award-winning winery located in Kenwood since 1982, announced today that it filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the Northern District of California, Santa Rosa Division.

Deerfield has had challenges with their lender, Rabobank, for many years.

PJ and Robert Rex, Managing Members of the Deerfield Ranch Winery, LLC, intend to reorganize the winery debt so it can continue to operate successfully for another 30 years.

“We fully intend to repay all of our creditors in full and operations will continue uninterrupted during this process. Our future looks bright and we look forward to strengthening our winery,” Robert Rex said.

Deerfield Ranch Winery, LLC bought 47 acres on Highway 12 to expand the winery’s production in 2000. They built a small winery facility with a crush pad and a 23,000 sq. ft. cave with a tasting room at its center.

Deerfield Ranch Winery has a vested permit to build a 45,000 case gravity-flow winery on top of the cave. Deerfield provides custom crush services for 10 family owned wineries and has contracts with 28 Sonoma County grape growers.

The winery built a bioreactor, recycles 98% of the winery’s waste water and received an award from the Sonoma County Water Board for their water conservation efforts in the wine industry.

In addition, Deerfield is restoring 14 acres of wetland on their property, home of the endangered Kenwood Marsh Checkerbloom flower. The US Fish and Wildlife Service gave the Deerfield Ranch Winery a Certificate of Appreciation for its contribution to the nation’s wildlife resources.
