Napa Valley Growers Enlist Top Researchers To Tackle Pierce’s Disease, Powdery Mildew & Trunk Diseases

NEWS RELEASE
NAPA, CA (February 18, 2016) – On Wednesday March 2, the Napa Valley Grapegrowers continues the three-part Sustainable Vineyard Practices Series (“SVP”). This session brings the top minds in research to Napa, where they’ll deliver practical tools and information, giving vineyard owners and managers what they need to protect their investment and bring heightened quality to their winegrapes.

SVP proudly features some of the industry’s most highly respected experts in the fields of plant bacteriology, plant pathology and genetics, including: Dr. Carlos Gonzalez, Professor of Plant Bacteriology at Texas A&M University and Dr. Doug Gubler, Extension Plant Pathologist at UC Davis. They will focus on pest and disease management, specifically the most recent Bacteriophage research being done as an approach to control the North Coast’s recent reemergence of Pierce’s Disease – and how to combat powdery mildew and trunk diseases. Dr. Monica Cooper, Napa County Farm Advisor -Viticulture with the University of California will also share what is known about the Grapevine Pinot Gris Virus, its impact on grapevine health and address questions about this relatively unknown virus.

For anyone farming in the Napa Valley and seeking the most relevant and applicable information on how to combat pests and diseases in the vineyard, these sessions should not be missed.

Now in its 6th year, the Sustainable Vineyard Practices Series has consistently sold out and been praised by the industry as one of the most informative events of the year, keeping the Napa Valley at the global forefront of sustainability and progressive viticultural practices.
