Terry Hall, champion of the Napa Valley and Yosemite National Park, has passed away

Terence William Hall

May 31, 1957-April 20, 2017

Terry Hall, champion of the Napa Valley and Yosemite National Park, passed away on April 20 at age 59 following a long illness. Cherished friend, brother, colleague and mentor, he leaves a legacy of kindness, creativity, intelligence, wit and generosity.

Born in Santa Monica, Terry grew up in Newbury Park, California with his parents Duane “Bud” and Anne Hall (deceased), and older brother, Larry, who survives him. Terry earned a Bachelor of Arts in recreation administration at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

His lifelong love of nature and hospitality converged in Yosemite where he worked at the Ahwahnee Hotel and went on to manage May Lake High Sierra Camp, White Wolf Lodge and Yosemite Lodge.
Terry’s sense of adventure and accomplished career took him to the Caribbean, Maui, Lake Tahoe’s Squaw Valley Inn (now Plumpjack) and Alaska’s Denali National Park before making his home in the Napa Valley in 1997. Over the next twenty years, he held leadership positions at Meadowood Resort, Trefethen Vineyards and Napa Valley Vintners, ultimately becoming a communications consultant under the banner “TH ink.” Terry also served as a founding board member of the Symposium for Professional Wine Writers and on the boards of Clinic Ole and Visit Napa Valley.

Creative, gracious, thoughtful and authentic, Terry was known for his effortless, elegant, earthy design, masterful communications, and extraordinary team building talent. He made lifelong friends at every turn, loved a festive gathering, treasured his solitude, and adored his pets. His wry humor and enormous heart will missed by multitudes.

A celebration of his life, hosted by the Napa Valley Vintners and Trefethen Vineyards, will be held on Tuesday, June 20th, 4-6pm at the villa at Trefethen Vineyards. Please bring a bottle of Napa Valley wine to share. Donations in Terry’s honor may be made to the Yosemite Conservancy or Napa Valley’s OLE Health.
