John Duarte to speak at special screening of “Pray for Rain” movie starring Jane Seymour

John Duarte will be giving a presentation about his trials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers prior to a special viewing of “Pray for Rain,” a feature film starring Jane Seymour, Annabelle Stephenson, and Nicholas Gonzalez.

The film opened in theaters June 16.

The Man-Made Part of the California Drought

According to information from the studio, the film digs deep into the issues of how the California drought and water shortages for agriculture were aggravated by politics and environmental regulations that placed higher priorities on fish than humans and farmers. Scroll down for a studio synopsis.

According to publicity information, “California farmer John Harris and businessman Forest Lucas have teamed up to tell the story of the California drought here in the San Joaquin Valley with their exciting new movie Pray for Rain. The truth hides in plain sight: how this California drought was exacerbated by environmental activism and senseless policy.”

Free Screening & Reception

The free screening and reception presentation and special premiere screening will be held Monday July 17 at Harris Ranch in Coalinga beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the screening of the 92-minute film set for  7:30 p.m.

Before the movie John Duarte from Duarte Nursery will be giving a short presentation on his challenges with the Army corps of Engineers and the Department of Justice Prosecution for his planting wheat in a wheat field. Seating is limited.


Pray for Rain Synopsis from the Studio

When Emma returns to Bella Canejo for her father’s funeral. She quickly begins to suspect that his death was not an accident, but may have been a murder. She and the town Sheriff, a childhood friend, Nico, begin to carefully investigate the ever mounting number of suspects.

Competing farmers are fueled by desperation, hunger and poverty. Local gangs run fast and loose, terrorizing the community. Environmental activists are believed to blow up a tracker, or two, for their cause. And politicians and land grabbers are fueled by greed.

With every new clue Emma’s life becomes more and more threatened. Her desire to uncover the truth spurs her on. In the end she finds much more than she was looking for: healing, peace of mind, and her life’s true purpose.”
