Dutcher Crossing Winery Promotes Nick Briggs to Winemaker

Healdsburg, CA, August 29, 2017 – Dutcher Crossing Winery today announced the appointment of Nick Briggs as winemaker. Briggs first joined Dutcher Crossing in 2012 working under the tutelage of founding winemaker Kerry Damskey. In his new role, Briggs will handle day-to-day winemaking operations with newly appointed assistant winemaker, Cass Gossage. Damskey will continue to consult with Briggs and winery proprietor Debra Mathy to drive the Dutcher Crossing wine program.

“As founding winemaker, Kerry has been an integral part of building the Dutcher Crossing wine program, and has brought Nick along on that journey,” said Debra Mathy, proprietor. “The two have formed a great bond and together we will continue to push forward the quality of our wines.”

“This is a great opportunity to elevate our unique and stylistic approach to creating premium, small-lot wines,” said Nick Briggs. “It’s an exciting time to be at Dutcher Crossing and I’m eager to continue working with Kerry and Cass as we take our wines to the next level.”

A California native, Briggs earned his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo in 2005. He brings a wealth of experience in winemaking to his new role, including his work as an assistant winemaker crafting some of Napa Valley’s premier wines.

About Dutcher Crossing:

Dutcher Crossing has come to represent an authentic experience for wine-lovers who visit this small winery located in the Dry Creek Valley of northern Sonoma County. The winery’s first vintage was in 2002, and the winery opened in March 2005. Proprietor Debra Mathy purchased Dutcher Crossing in March 2007, ensuring the next generation of leadership as she continues to build the Dutcher Crossing brand. The belief that good wine starts with great fruit is only the beginning for the Dutcher Crossing winemaking team. That sentiment, paired with the philosophy that great wine doesn’t have to be estate-driven, gives the winemaking team the opportunity to make great wine from great vineyards throughout Sonoma and Napa appellations and beyond. Dutcher Crossing stays on an ongoing quest to discover new and interesting fruit sources to accompany its estate vineyards in Dry Creek, Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley. That discovery drives Dutcher Crossing’s commitment to diversity as a key part of the winery’s approach in the cellar.
