SUMMARY:

Property damage has reached $1 billion and will increase according to the California Insurance Commissioner.

Total burned acreage remains the same  as yesterday according to Cal Fire data which shows that containments have mostly stalled in the largest fires.

Howevewr, light-rain  over the Sonoma County fire area yesterdat offers hope for containment by Tuesday.

Satellite data (maps below) indicate that there were no hot spots at all detected in the four wine country counties.

Satellites only view the area every 12 hours, so current conditions on the ground will inevitably vary. This will be updated after the satellite pass later this morning.

Most evacuation orders and road closures have been lifted.

• Death toll*: 38 (Sheriffs statements – Sonoma County: 23, Mendocino County: 8, Napa County: 7)
  
• Containment (CalFire): Tubbs at 93% — up 1% from 10/18-19  (82%-10/17), Atlas at 87% up 1% from 10/19 (84% on 10/19, 77%-10/17), Nuns at 85% no change (85% on 10/19, 83% on 10/18 (68%-10/17)
• Acres Burned (CalFire): 199,421 – no change from 10/19 (194,016 on 10/18 – 193,516 on 10/17) – Scroll down for containment and detailed fire-by-fire info, below maps.
• Wineries damaged or destroyed (click here for updates)
• People Evacuated: 90,000+ most returning. (Sheriffs)
• People without power: 3,600,was 20,000 but PG&E said on 10/19 “We are working to restore about 1,100 customers today; we expect to have service restored to an additional 800 customers by Sunday; and about 1,700 of these customers are in areas where access is restricted due to challenging terrain or pending CAL FIRE approval to enter the area”

• Weather (NWS):Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 66. West wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 42. West wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light west northwest in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

* According to Cal Fire, the current fires have caused the largest death toll of any wildfire since accurate records were kept: California wildfires.

 

In addition, the death toll has exceeded the Griffith Park Fire which is considered the state’s largest single deadly fire with an official toll of 29.

 

Additional deaths in current fires in Yuba and Butte Counties have pushed the overall Northern California wildfire death toll to at least 40.
