Calif Sanctions Greenfield/Cartlidge & Browne, 2 Others Over Grower Issues

Greenfield Wine Company’s ability to buy winegrapes is on probation following recent sanctions by the Market Enforcement Branch of the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA).

The stipulated agreement between the MEB and Greenfield Winery (d.b.a Cartlidge & Browne Winery ) of American Canyon specifies that Greenfield will lose its license to buy winegrapes unless it sticks to its schedule to pay an original sum of more than $ 1.82 million owed to growers for the 2007 and 2008 vintages.

C&B Founder Tony Cartlidge told Wine Industry Insight that his company has only about $500,000 left of that to pay.

According to California state law, wineries may not legally buy winegrapes without a CDFA processor’s license.
