Napa, CA (October 1, 2018) – ROOTSTOCK 2018 will take place on Thursday, November 8 at the Napa Valley College. After a year hiatus to re-conceptualize how best to connect vineyard practices to wine quality in a one-day program, ROOTSTOCK is back in an even more impactful way.

 

Timed just as the 2018 harvest comes to a close and the industry begins to look towards the next growing season and the future, ROOTSTOCK gives the industry a chance to connect with friends and colleagues, experience new technology firsthand, gain access to the latest products and services, and raise a glass to the 2018 vintage at the ROOTSTOCK Happy Hour.

 

Presented by the Napa Valley Grapegrowers (NVG), 2018 highlights include:

 

• Experts in the Round Seminars
  o Soil Health, a conversation with Dr. Kristin Lowe, PhD, Vine Balance Consulting and Dr. Paul Anamosa, PhD, Viticultural Soil Scientist, Vineyard Soil Technologieso Vineyard & Winery Profitability, moderated by Caleb Mosley of Michael Wolf Vineyard Services, with panelists PJ Alviso of Duckhorn Vineyards, Jon Ruel of Trefethen Family Vineyards, and Hal Huffsmith of Fresno State and formerly Trinchero Family Estates o Sneak Peek of the 2018 Vintage with ETS Laboratories, moderated by Maayan Koschitzky of Atelier Melka, with data and panel discussion from Rich DeScenzo and Steve Price of ETS Laboratories
• Wildfires are part of the West Coast’s environmental landscape. Dr. Tom Collins, PhD, Assistant Professor, Washington State University Wine Science Center delivers an update on his Industry Research on Smoke Taint.
• Dr. Johann Martinez, PhD, of UC Cooperative Extension, Oakville Station provides an update on his Crop Load & Yield Research for Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon.
• A review of Napa County Laws and Regulations with Jose Chang of Napa County Agricultural Commissioner’s. 1 hour of CE credit (pending).
• Duarte Nursery and Agri-Analysis will team up to discuss Current Best Practices for Long Term Vineyard Health, which will include best management practices for vector control and vine testing. 1 hour of CE credit (pending).
• Taste and understand the nuances of Napa Valley’s AVA through a curated Appellation Tasting, moderated by Angela Stem of Acme Fine Wines.
• Part of an intensive 3-day Leadership & Viticultural Best Practices program hosted by the Napa Valley Farmworker Foundation, vineyard professionals will attend ROOTSTOCK for educational sessions from the Napa Valley Ag Commissioner’s office, UC Cooperative Extension and additional industry experts.

 

The new ROOTSTOCK experience will include cutting-edge, educational experiences in every aspect of the symposium from the Event Partner booth experiences to top-quality, provocative panel discussions on viticulture, winemaking, and technology & innovation.

 

• The day will conclude with the ROOTSTOCK Happy Hour, a pop-up party to catch up with friends and colleagues post-harvest and after a full day of learning.

 

Seminars will take place throughout the day and Experts in the Round discussions require an All-Access pass. All attendees are invited to the symposium talks, as well as opportunities to learn more, firsthand from the industry’s highest quality viticulture and enology companies.

ROOTSTOCK is from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 8 at the Napa Valley College with an onsite Happy Hour to follow from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Locally-produced lunch will be provided for All- Access passholders and available for purchase to Symposium & Happy Hour ticketholders. Happy Hour hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants along with wine, beer and cocktails included in all ticket types.

 

The Napa Valley Grapegrowers hosted its first symposium and exhibition, the Napa Valley Viticultural Fair, in 1990.
