The Guardian (U.K.) has reported that Consetllation Brands will cut 5% of its workforce.
“Constellation Brands, the world’s biggest wine maker, is to cut 5% of its 8,200-strong workforce, blaming the move in large part on shrinking British sales of its labels, which include Hardys, Banrock Station and Kumala.
“Rob Sands, chief executive of Constellation, said: ‘We experienced weaker than expected demand … during the Christmas and new year holiday. ‘The most significant impact was felt in the UK, where the economy weakened during the critical selling season, retail competition intensified and we made the decision to forgo participation in significant price discounting offered by multiple grocers’.”
