Stevenot Files Ch. 11 For Second Time

Faced with a foreclosure sale scheduled for today, troubled Stevenot Winery filed for Chapter 11 reorganization on Friday, Jan. 9, in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California, in Sacramento.

Under previous ownership, the Murphys, CA winery had filed for Chapter 11 on January 24, 2005 and emerged from that proceeding June 21, 2006.

Current owner Jack Munari purchased the Calaveras County winery in 2006.

The winery rushed into bankruptcy court with a partial filing and has until Jan. 26 to complete its filing.

The current action was foreshadowed earlier this year when Stevenot fell behind on payments to grape suppliers.
