The has been under reported because the official crush report does not include grapes retained by growers to make their own wine according to True Value of California Wine Grapes, in the most recent issue of ARE Update published by the University of California Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics.
The study by researchers Olena Sambucci and Julian M. Alston, estimate that the actual value is $3.638.3 billion, almost half a billion higher than the official value of $3.142.6 billion.
